Things might have gone differently in so many situations if R2-D2 had his own mech like this one from M<0><0>DSWIM. Tuskin Raiders? No Problem. Fell in a swamp? No problem. Stormtroopers? No Problem. Battle of Yavin? Ok, fitting him in the back of an X-Wing might have been a small problem, but I'm guessing this baby has flight capabilities, so no problem!
Some day I suspect we'll have colossal ships like this one from builder I Scream Clone roaming the galaxy and beyond (if we don't blow ourselves up first). I have to wonder what the men and women on these journeys will experience, what they will see and do. And if any of them will fight a Gorn just outside of Santa Clarita...I mean another planet.
Nintendo and Kirby fans should recognize this little artist, it's Adeleine! She's the adorable young artist with the pretty handy ability to make her paintings come to life. Can you imagine having the same ability with bricks? She's been in may Kirby titles, and hopefully will be making an appearance in Star Allies soon.
No, not that Saturn, this one, the steam powered tug. It was the last one to see active duty in Germany until 1979, and now it's been artfully recreated by builder koffiemoc. The real Saturn has been restored and is residing in the Rostock Shipping Museum. This brick-built one is so well done it deserves a place right by it's side.
It takes one look at a classic Coca-Cola machine, a vintage radio or even a gas pump to see how we as humans used to really care about aesthetics. While modern design can be nice, a truly beautiful item is rare these days, and always celebrated, which makes me wonder why there isn't more beautiful stuff? Builder Norton74 gets it, and has crafted this vintage gas pump, which served a simple purpose, and looked good doing it.
Any kid that owned a Gameboy in the late 90's (so let's face it, most) recognizes these guys, it's the trainers from Pokemon Red and Blue, the ubiquitous monster catching role-playing game. It gives me great pleasure to present these as they come from a builder you might have heard of, Mr Kevin Hinkle himself. It's good to see you dabbling with the bricks Kevin.
Right now, as you read this, there are brave people speeding at just under 5 miles a second approximately 250 miles up in what is essentially a bunch of bus-sized tubes connected together. The overall size is about a football field, in a never ending free fall around the planet. You can see it with the naked eye if you know where and when to look, and it just blows my mind. I'm talking about the International Space Station, and it's a wonder of human innovation and exploratory spirit. While this version by builder Jussi Koskinen is an order of magnitude smaller, it's still pretty amazing. The attention to detail is fantastic, and the presentation is stellar, pun intended.
Here at BrickNerd we like to look back from time to time, and to a galaxy far, far away. Way back in 2012, a full year before BrickNerd was even a thing, builder 2 Much Caffeine crafted this charming rendition of the Lars homestead, at the time of Luke's fateful meeting of R2-D2 and C3PO. It's small, but it's awesome.
I still remember that sense of awe that I felt during my first viewing of The Empire Strikes Back when the Super Star Destroyer was revealed. We all knew the colossal scale of the Star Destroyer, and when they showed a fleet them all being dwarfed, first by shadow, then by the ship, my jaw dropped. This was a ship of immense scale, and this build by Fabrice Neaud is pretty immense in it's own right.
Want to hear something weird? I have something strangely in common with this MOC by vitreolum... I was the clouds in the movie Cabin Boy. Way back in the early 90's my friend Tony Gardner was doing the makeup for the film, and they needed someone with an expressive face, so naturally they thought of me (the human cartoon). I'll refer you to this old episode of Movie Magic for more info. A self imposed challenge on this MOC was a curved, studless sail. I'd say challenge accepted, and conquered.
It's another busy morning here, we're at Disneyland (of course we are) and if we want to take advantage of extra magic hour, we need to boogie. But I did want to take a moment to share this awesome Gundam bust by builder EugeneTTs.
Talk about serendipitous timing, I'm actually heading to Disneyland TODAY! This wonderful MOC by builder LEGDOC represents our cross country cousin in Florida, but they both have the same magic. It depicts the Main Street U.S.A. Station, the "hub", Cinderella's Castle, Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland and the new Fantasyland.
I've always been a fan of Gamera. We watched Toho movies every Saturday they were on, and it was the first ever episode of MST3K I saw. So this MOC by P. B. instantly caught my eye. It's whimsical, funny, and also part of that MOCpages contest I have no time to research, so you'll have to fill in the blanks yourself.
I won't claim to have the slightest clue what the back story is on this MOC by W. Navarre. I know there's some kind of MOCpages contest, and it's sort of a T-800, and an ABS challenge maybe, I don't know. And it's a crazy morning here at BrickNerd headquarters, so I have no time to research. What I do know is this is a pretty awesome skull flag, feel free to comment and fill in the details.
What do you do when a totally cute Kaiju attacks? Well you deploy an equally cute Jaeger! That term seems at odd with itself, "cute Jaeger", but tell me this rendition of the Russian mech by builder chubbybots isn't adorable. What hope do the Kaiju have when they are overpowered with squee?
Ah Ewoks, those cuddly little teddy bears that overthrew an empire (or at least helped). Love them or hate them, you have to admit they're better than gungans. Builder LEGO 7 likes them, and I don't mind them, and I really don't mind this pretty spiffy little MOC featuring them. And before you start complaining that they're just cute little fuzzy critters, I'll remind you they fully intended to EAT Han and Luke, think about that.
I really like the presentation on this latest MOC by Mike Dung. Of course the figure is adorable, like we've come to expect from Mike, but the interpretation of Katsushika Hokusai's Great Wave off Kanagawa is absolutely genius. The feeling of power and motion is in the spirit of the classic print, and sets this MOC apart.
It took a lot of guts to use a puppet to represent a powerful Jedi master and mentor in the sequel to the most popular movie of all time. But bringing together the talents of Stuart Freeborn and Frank Oz made it work, and the gamble paid off. Now master Yoda is part of our lives, recognized around the world, represented in all forms of art including LEGO sculpture, like this stellar example by builder Felix Jaensch.
It's been a while since I've seen characters from World of Warcraft. I've never played myself, but my boys dedicated no small amount of their lives to this game not that long ago. I did see the movie, but like the other non players in the audience, we were all going "huh? who? what?" These are members of the Horde by builder YOS Bricks, namely Cairne Bloodhoof, leader of Thunder Bluff, Vol'jin, chieftain of the Darkspear tribe and Rexxar, champion of the Horde.
The thumbnail of this brilliant MOC by timofey_tkachev totally got me. I was scrolling right past it, because it was just a picture of a monitor right? I don't have to ask you to imagine how I felt to discover with delight it's brick-built, I assume you just went through the same discovery. This is the front page of the Russian LEGO club phantoms.su, I can't read a word of it, but I don't care.
